LUCAS Walshaw and his team-mates are hoping for "less flogging and more bonding" when the Bulls begin their British Army camp today.
Jimmy Lowes believes the three-day stay at the Carver Barracks in Saffron Walden, Essex will provide his squad with a welcome “change of scenery” from their normal routine.
The head coach is unsure quite what activities the military have in store for his men.
He joked: “God knows what the army blokes are going to make us do – they might have us sat naked in a field for three days. I’d enjoy that to be honest!”
The three-day camp comes just over two weeks before the Championship opener at Leigh on February 15.
New recruit Walshaw, who has featured in both the Bulls' friendlies against Castleford and Leeds, said: “I know what’s going to happen – it’s probably going to be a flogging!
“But it will be about team bonding as well so hopefully it will be less flogging and more team bonding.
“I’ve not been on an army camp before but it should be a good experience.”
Lee Gaskell, who scored a long-range breakaway try in the closing stages of Jamie Peacock’s testimonial, is prepared for the worst.
The stand-off said: “I’m not looking forward to it to be honest but it should be a good experience and a chance to bond with the squad.
“We’ve got three days down there and it will be nice to spend a bit of time together and get to know each other even better.”
Samir Tahraoui believes the camp will provide the Bulls with a welcome break from their regular rugby routine before preparations for the opening match at Leigh step up a notch next week.
“It’ll be a good experience for the lads to be away from rugby for a few days,” said the prop.
“I wouldn’t say we need any team-building because we’re already a close-knit group anyway, but it’s just something to take your mind off rugby.
“As soon as we get back, it’s going to be two really intense weeks in preparation for Leigh.”
