SCUNTHORPE are drawing up a January shopping list to build on their current run of form.
Wednesday’s record-breaking FA Cup penalty win over Worcester meant the Iron have lost only once in the last 11 games.
Boss Mark Robins has engineered the transformation since he replaced Russ Wilcox in October. But chairman Peter Swann revealed he has already made his plans for further squad strengthening when the transfer window reopens next month.
Swann said: “Mark has presented a list of players he wants to go for and identified who we’d like to ship out too.
“Of course, it will be down to money to a point. But Mark has done superbly and we both want to build for the future.”
The in-form Iron lived on their nerves before scrambling past non-league Worcester 14-13 on spot-kicks on Wednesday night after the game finished 1-1 after extra-time.
Centre half Miguel Llera, who played for Phil Parkinson at Charlton, eventually settled the marathon with the decisive finish. He also scored the winner in last Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Crewe.
Robins admitted: “It is absolute relief but I thought Worcester were excellent. They are no mugs.
“I’ve not experienced a penalty shoot-out like that before and I thought we were going for the world record number of penalties.”
Gary McSheffery came off Scunthorpe’s lengthy injury list to make his return in midweek after a hamstring problem.
Loan players Luke Williams, Liam O’Neil and Richard Brindley are all expected to feature again at Valley Parade. They were not allowed to feature in the FA Cup.
Robins will check on the fitness of Isaiah Osbourne who took a knock during the game.
Scunthorpe are unbeaten away since Robins took charge. His only defeat was at home in Notts County eight games ago.
He said: “We need to get into these players’ heads at times.
“You need to understand how they are thinking because we all know they can play. They all train every day in a manner you want with quality.
“Everything we have done is spot on so far and sometimes we just look a bit nervy.”
