Lee Gaskell admits his frustration got the better of him during Saturday’s horror show in Catalan but he is confident the Bulls can turn things around against Wakefield.
Francis Cummins’ men were thumped 46-4 in Perpignan and remain on zero points after 14 rounds of their Super League campaign.
They must beat the third-bottom Wildcats at Odsal on Sunday and hope next week’s points appeal is successful if they are to begin climbing to safety.
But Gaskell believes his team can produce the right response against Richard Agar’s side after a disappointing afternoon in France.
The former St Helens star said: “We all spoke about Catalan being a big game and we thought we could go there and get one over on them.
“But it wasn’t meant to be. I think a few people were getting a bit frustrated but we’ve just got to stick to the game-plan and stick with each other.
“The Wakefield game is a no-brainer – we simply have to win – and we’re going to be training hard this week to put the Catalan game to the back of our minds. I think it was just an off-day.”
The Bulls picked up no new injuries against the Dragons and Jamal Fakir, Dale Ferguson, Matty Blythe, Matt Diskin and Chev Walker could all return at the weekend.
Gaskell said: “You look at the players we have got coming back such as Chev, Matty and Matt and one or two others, then you can see our squad is getting stronger all the time.
“We’ve just got to keep working hard for each other.”
Gaskell was outpaced by Morgan Escare when the Catalan full back blitzed through the Bulls defence to score an exhilarating long-range effort in the second minute.
He admitted he was feeling the effects of an ankle injury sustained against Huddersfield during the Magic Weekend defeat.
Gaskell explained: “It’s just a knock to my ankle but it’s fine and you just have to get on with it.
“It’s part and parcel of the sport and you have to just keep trudging on.”
