I thought last week’s display was a good effort while we had the energy.
We were playing with only one out-and-out prop against a team with the biggest pack in the competition. That’s a massive ask for our middle unit but we didn’t really have one due to a severe lack of props.
We did well until fatigue kicked in and when they start rolling international players off the bench it’s always going to be tough.
This weekend’s game against Catalan is huge but if we want to stay up then it’s the sort of game we need to go and win.
It will feel like having new signings this week because of the players that are hopefully coming back.
Antonio Kaufusi, James Donaldson and Manase Manuokafoa should all be available again, plus Jordan Baldwinson and Mason Tonks have joined the squad.
We were scraping the barrel a bit last week and were training with only 12 players.
When you are playing against a Huddersfield side with 30 quality players then it’s always going to be tough. But we dusted ourselves off and began to prepare positively for the trip to Perpignan.
It’s a massive game because of what is at stake.
This season could be the biggest of my career and I don’t say that lightly.
I’ve played in Super League Grand Finals but they don’t mean much compared to your livelihood being on the line.
We are trying to secure our jobs here and this year is the big one.
We can take heart from the fact we beat Catalan last month in the Challenge Cup.
I wasn’t overly happy with my performance that day but I scored a couple of tries and kicked a few goals.
I think Catalan will be aiming for a big improvement as well because they only just scraped past London Broncos last week at the Magic Weekend.
It’s always very physical and hostile over in Perpignan and you’re out of your comfort zone.
But we’ve been out of our comfort zone all year and have got to start knocking these teams over if we are to stay up.
