Bulls prop Garreth Carvell is believed to be on the verge of a dramatic return to Hull FC.
The 32-year-old was signed by the Bulls on a two-year contract after a successful five-year spell at Warrington.
But he could now become reunited with Hull coach Lee Radford, his former Black and Whites team-mate, at the club where he made his Super League name.
Although Bulls chairman Mark Moore said in a statement on Saturday that Francis Cummins’ squad had been “ring-fenced”, it is understood that Carvell has made clear his desire to leave after OK Bulls Ltd was placed into administration last Friday.
The Bulls said that “all players, employees and assets have been transferred to the new company”, namely Bradford Bulls 2014 Ltd, which was registered with Companies House last November.
Bulls officials will meet with the RFL tomorrow as they seek ratification of the change of ownership and transferral of the club’s RFL membership and Super League licence.
Hull said in a statement this morning: "Hull FC have confirmed that they're monitoring the on-going contract situation of former forward Garreth Carvell.
"The club have been made aware of Carvell's availability and could look to formalise a deal for the Challenge Cup winner in the near future once his situation has been clarified.
"Carvell made 164 appearances for Hull FC between 2001 and 2008, including two Challenge Cup Final appearances and a Grand Final, before joining the Wolves.
"The club will make no further comment at this stage."
The loss of Carvell would be a major blow to Cummins and his small squad.
Carvell has made just one appearance for the club, ironically against Hull in the Bulls’ opening friendly on January 19, and was not selected against Castleford last weekend.
Neither the player nor his agent, Andy Clarke, were available for comment last night but Robbie Hunter-Paul said the transfer market was “constantly moving”.
The Bulls chief executive said: “We said publicly last weekend that we wished to ring-fence our players and keep the squad intact.
“But the market is constantly moving and it is an ever-changing environment.”
It remains to be seen whether Carvell will remain a part of the Bulls’ squad or whether he would be allowed to leave for a fee.
Ex-Bradford forward Radford is light on props at the KC Stadium, with Liam Watts and Chris Green almost certain to miss the start of the season with shin and ankle injuries respectively.
Hull forward Jay Pitts has been linked with a move to Bradford as part of a possible swap deal that could smooth the way for Carvell’s departure.
Leeds-born Carvell spoke recently of his desire to move into coaching at the Bulls, with the long-term aim of becoming a coach after he retires.
Speaking at the Bulls’ pre-season media day on January 20, he also said he had no intention of leaving the club.
Carvell said: “No player wants to leave and, even if they did, it's so late in the day that clubs have more or less got their squads and they've spent up to the cap.
“All the turmoil that is going on seems to have galvanised everybody, which is another reason no one wants to leave. You don't want to let your mates down.
“I’ve signed here for two years but I want to be playing for another three or four.
“I chose Bradford because I wanted to come here and help the club develop.
“I felt the Bulls were in a building phase and I’d like to go into coaching when I finish playing.
“I thought this was a great place to get involved with the Academy as a player and then hopefully have a career in coaching afterwards.
“I’ll just take in what I can from Franny and try to get involved with the 16s and 19s here at Bradford.”
