Glenn Morrison has tipped rising star Adam O’Brien as a potential Bulls captain of the future ahead of tomorrow’s showdown at the Tetley’s Stadium.
O’Brien gained valuable first-team experience when playing for Dewsbury under Morrison last season as part of the Bulls’ dual registration partnership with the Championship outfit.
Now the 20-year-old hooker will face a number of his former team-mates as he looks to further stake his claim for a regular place in Francis Cummins’ side.
With Heath L’Estrange having departed the Bulls at the end of last season, O’Brien looks set to play regularly at Odsal in 2014.
Dewsbury coach Morrison, who represented the Bulls with distinction for three seasons between 2007 and 2009, said: “Adam started for Bradford last week against Hull FC and did a great job.
“I think the time spent playing against grown men at Dewsbury really lifted his game and he’s got that experience under his belt now.
“He showed last week that he can play in Super League and I really believe he is a captain of the future.
“I’d love to have him back here again but that was our role – as a support club – to build players such as Adam up into Super League players.
“If one or two Bradford players come available this year – and they’re better than what we’ve got and we need them – then we’ll use them.
“They’ve got a couple of young guys who would fit well into our squad so I’m sure the partnership will work well again this year.”
The Rams beat Keighley 20-12 at Cougar Park on Thursday night and Morrison will shuffle his pack for the visit of the Bulls.
Karl Pryce, Wayne Godwin and Jobe Murphy are among a number of ex-Bradford players in the Dewsbury ranks, along with Connor Nolan, Kieran Hyde, Marcus Elliott, Ryan Wright, Tom Lillycrop and Joel Farrell.
Morrison added: “I’ve got ties to Bradford as well as Wagga, Prycey and a few other lads too.
“There is a bit of banter going back and forth already but it’s good that Bradford are bringing their full squad and it’s going to be a test for us.
“Hopefully we can put on a performance.”
