Nick Scruton hopes that the Bulls’ current crisis does not hinder his bid for a new deal after stating his “love” for the club.
The line-busting prop forward enjoyed his best season to date last campaign and scooped the majority of prizes in September at the player of the year awards as a result.
But Scruton, now in the last year of his current contract, is keeping his fingers crossed that the latest uncertainty swirling around Odsal does not scupper his bid for an extension.
“I’d love to stay at Bradford if everything’s all right and financially stable,” said Scruton, who is one of the Bulls’ longest-serving players after joining from Leeds in 2009.
“The situation is what it is. I’m just going to be going out and training as hard as I possibly can and, come game time, play as hard as I can.
“Contracts don’t look after themselves but I can’t be thinking about that at the minute.
“I’ve got family and stuff like that to think of as well, but my first choice would be to stay here because I’ve loved it here this past six years and I don’t really want to move. If that’s the best option for me, then I will stay.”
Scruton went through similar turmoil throughout the 2012 campaign, where he mostly watched on from off the pitch after being plagued by injuries while the Bulls’ future was up in the air.
He said: “Franny (Cummins) has always kept us in the loop and one of the sayings he always tells us is that we can’t control the mess-ups and stuff that have happened in the past.
“That’s all out of our hands and we don’t know everything that’s going on behind the scenes.
“What we can do is just get to Tong every morning and train and do it the best we can.
“Obviously it’s all in the back of your mind, but we just come in and do our job and try and be professional.”
