Rising Bulls star Oliver Roberts is raring to go after undergoing a successful hernia operation.
The strapping teenager had the surgery in St Helens last week but is already back in full training.
After making his Super League debut during the 2013 campaign, he has set his sights on establishing himself further in Francis Cummins’ plans.
Roberts, who turns 19 on Christmas Eve, said: “I had my hernia operation last week and it went perfectly – I was in and out in the same day.
“My mum took me over, I returned home the same afternoon and am back running straight away.”
Roberts is set to become a father for the first time, with his girlfriend Lauren due to give birth next month.
The England Academy star says he is not fazed in the slightest by the Bulls’ financial problems.
“What’s going on behind the scenes at the club doesn’t concern us as players,” said Roberts.
“We’re there to do one thing and that’s to play rugby, which we just have to do to the best of our ability.
“It preys on the back of your mind but we just need to get over it really.
“I was in the Academy the last time it happened and there was uncertainty about whether we would get paid.
“But the lads stuck together and said we just wanted to play well.
“In the Academy that season we had a good year, so hopefully the first team will just push on and get through it.
“You need a back-up plan in case you don’t get paid, but hopefully we should all be and everything will work itself out.
“Certainly the lads are on top form and are killing it in training every day.
“Everything is going brilliantly and yes, there is this hurdle, but the lads are just carrying on with things as normal.”
Head coach Cummins has insisted that none of his talented young players would be allowed to depart.
Roberts added: “It’s good what Franny said about none of the young lads leaving.
“It shows the club is willing to back their younger players and give us an opportunity to play.
“The more games we play as young lads then the better it is for us.”
