Teenage centre Sam Wood is hoping to continue his rugby league education under the tutelage of latest Bulls overseas recruit Adam Henry.
The former Bradford academy captain made his Super League debut on the wing at Wigan last season in place of mentor Keith Lulia, a player who has since headed back to the NRL with West Tigers.
Wood has nothing but praise for his former team-mate and is looking to form a similar bond with Henry this season, despite being in direct competition for a spot in the Bulls back-line.
He said: “I’m just looking forward to training and playing with Adam Henry. I learnt loads off of Keith last year and I want to do the same with him and improve my game.
“There’s always going to be plenty of competition to get into that spot because there are quite a few good centres in there. I just need to keep building on size and speed as fast as I possibly can.
"This year’s another step up for me and I’m looking forward to grasping the opportunities when they are given to me.”
With Wood ineligible to play for the under-19s this season, as he will turn 20 before the new year, the Halifax-born former Siddal amateur will play at Bradford’s feeder team Dewsbury in the Championship.
That is a test which Wood believes will stand him in good stead when he is called upon to play in the Bulls first team.
He added: “To go from playing 19-year-old lads to playing fully grown men is going to be a bit of a challenge.
“I’ve spoke to a few lads about it and they’ve said that the physicality of the Championship is probably the same as Super League, so the experience at Dewsbury will help me handle it better.”
