Bulls coach Francis Cummins has backed the club’s young guns to make another big impact in the first team next season.

Cummins handed senior debuts to Sam Wood, Oliver Roberts, Alex Mellor, Nathan Conroy and Curtis Naughton in 2013.

Naughton has since emigrated to Australia to join the junior ranks at Sydney Roosters but Cummins believes the rest of his rookies can continue their rise to prominence.

“They dipped their toe in and probably didn’t think that they were going to get the amount of games that they did,” he said.

“Going forward, it’s very important that we get them right on the physical side, especially with the forwards. Ollie and Alex are the main ones who need to get themselves physically ready.

“There were flashes where they played and did really well and, if I had a big enough squad, I would’ve liked to do that even more anyway.

“It’s important they get that good pre-season under their belts now because they are looking really good.”

Cummins says the Bulls will continue to build the club on their home-grown talent.

He said: “They are all definitely the future of the club. You look at Sam, Ollie, Alex, Adam (O’Brien) and Nathan in a few years time and it all bodes well.

“Even with the likes of Luke Gale and Dale Ferguson, who still have their best years ahead of them, you start to look over to the future and there is an awful lot of good happening.”
