Jarrod Sammut believes the Bulls must show far greater tactical discipline as they head into Sunday’s pivotal showdown at play-off rivals Hull KR.
The stand-off says Francis Cummins’ men “crucified” themselves after failing to stick to the gameplan during the Magic Weekend thumping at the hands of Huddersfield.
He is now calling for a major improvement as the Bulls bid to reignite their campaign at Craven Park on Sunday.
Sammut said: “You look at our performances this year and we’ve never thrown in the towel.
“You can’t question the effort, it’s always there. But the little things, like staying composed, completing sets, not getting flustered and just sticking to a structure, are major issues for us.
“Against Huddersfield, we didn’t stick to any of that and we crucified ourselves.
“All of us were off our game at the Magic Weekend – we didn’t stick to how we know we can play.
“It’s back to the drawing board and we need to get it fixed quick-smart.”
The Bulls lie in seventh place and just two points ahead of Craig Sandercock’s side, who were beaten in such controversial fashion by sworn enemies Hull FC at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Sammut said: “Hull KR got done on Saturday in unfortunate circumstances for them.
“They will have a lot of motivation behind them and I think they have got a lot of form coming into this week.
“We were in the game for 60 minutes against Huddersfield but let ourselves down and need to get back to doing the little things right.”
Sammut reverted to his customary position in the halves against the Giants after filling in at full back to good effect the week previously.
Jamie Foster returned after a four-match injury absence to play full back against Huddersfield and Sammut added: “Foz came back in on Sunday after a few weeks out and having expected to be out longer.
“I think he was a bit hesitant with himself but that’s to be expected.
“On Sunday it wasn’t just Foz – it was the whole team – and we weren’t on the ball as a collective. It’s something we need to rectify.”
