Jacob Fairbank is hoping to cut Huddersfield down to size when he crosses swords with his parent club at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The on-loan forward made his Bulls debut in Friday’s win at Salford and is now looking forward to facing the Giants in the Magic Weekend showdown.
Fairbank said: “I was asked if I wanted to play in this one and I put my hand up for it straight away.
“It’ll be strange but it’ll be good at the same time. I really enjoyed my debut on Friday and it was great to get the win. It was a good first hit-out.”
The 23-year-old – nephew of legendary Bradford Northern prop Karl Fairbank – made a handful of Super League appearances for the Giants at the start of the year but has since found it hard to force his way into Paul Anderson’s high-flying side.
“This is what I needed,” admitted Fairbank, who has the likes of Eorl Crabtree, Stuart Fielden and Craig Kopczak ahead of him in the pecking order at the John Smith’s Stadium.
“I was getting a bit stale at the Giants and this has given me a boost.
“The lads in the Huddersfield team are playing well, so I can’t argue with not getting in.
“If they were struggling, I’d have to ask some questions, but they’re playing well.
“I’m here for a month and then we’ll see what happens after that.”
Fairbank, whose preferred position is loose forward, said of his legendary uncle: “Karl gives me some tips but generally keeps himself to himself.
“As long as I’m doing well he’s happy and it’s good to keep the family name going in rugby league. I’m the only one in my generation doing it.”
Bulls coach Francis Cummins reported no fresh injury worries after Friday’s win.
