The Bulls hierarchy will meet with the Rugby Football League this morning as they bid to finally secure the club’s Super League status for next season.
RFL director of licensing and standards Blake Solly and chief operating officer Ralph Rimmer met Bulls owner Omar Khan and co-chairman Gerry Sutcliffe during the recent match against Catalan in Perpignan.
And formal talks will be held today designed at providing the game’s governing body with assurances over the club’s progress on and off the field since they were awarded a one-year probationary licence last September.
Khan and Sutcliffe are keen for the RFL to rubber-stamp the club’s status until the end of 2014 – when the current round of Super League licences expire – as they bid to begin planning for next year.
It is not yet clear when a decision and subsequent announcement will be made but it is expected to be within the next fortnight.
Although season-ticket sales have fallen below target figures, the club have made highly impressive strides on the field.
Francis Cummins’ men lie third in the table heading into this weekend’s round 12 home clash with Wigan.
Bulls coach Cummins – who will check on the fitness of Tom Olbison (shoulder) before naming his 19-man squad today – said: “You’ve got to be pleased but we know there’s got to be a lot more to come.
“We don’t want to look back and say we were third at Easter and then it all fell to bits.
“We’ve taken stock of it and have enjoyed where we are but we have to kick on now.
“You have a quick look at the table but we’re not going to be ruled by it.
“It’s more about performance and whether we’re improving.
“I believe we’re improving individually and as a group and I’m really happy that we’re getting the wins as well.”
Meanwhile, the Bulls under-19s slipped to their seventh defeat of the season last night, losing 78-6 at home to Wigan.
Full back Ryan Hampshire scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked 13 goals as Paul Medley’s young guns were seriously outclassed.
Rob Lever opened the scoring for Wigan but Bradford levelled through Josh Casey’s well-taken score, which Curtis Naughton converted.
However, the visitors were utterly dominant thereafter, establishing a 36-6 interval lead before scoring seven tries after the break.
