Jamie Foster reckons Wigan are the team to be shot at – but believes the Bulls will meet them at the right time.
The Super League-topping Warriors head for Odsal on Sunday on the back of seven wins in their last eight games.
It promises to be a huge challenge for the third-placed Bulls. Winger Foster, sidelined with an ankle ligament tear, enjoyed some fierce derby tussles in his St Helens days and reckons the stage is set for a memorable afternoon.
He said: “No disrespect to Salford and London but they are no Wigan Warriors. Every time I sit down in front the TV and watch highlights, you see Wigan running in try after try. They just make teams look really average.
“I watched the game against St Helens the other day and at half-time it was as good as over – they were 18-0 up and absolutely cruising.
“It’s going to be a massive test for us but I believe if we really want to push ourselves, we need that.
“It’s like any job in the world. If you want to keep moving on, you’ve got to test yourself against the best.”
Wigan have racked up over a hundred points more than the Bulls and St Helens. Protecting their own line is crucial if the home side are to buck the trend.
Foster said: “If you’d asked me at the beginning of the season, I might have said someone like St Helens or Warrington were the teams to beat. But now you look at the way Wigan are going.
“They are very well coached and Shaun Wane is very aggressive in the way he sets up. They bully a lot of teams.
“St Helens have got a lot of quality players but all of a sudden you had Wigan just flying out the line, completely on top.
“You’ve got to defend really well to give yourself a chance.
“We’re a team that will always put points on the board. We’ve got a lot of players who play off the cuff like Jarrod (Sammut) and Brett Kearney.
“We can always get the points. It’s just a matter of keeping Wigan out.
“They attack like no-one else in the league. There are that many people coming at you and you’ve got to make the right decisions.
“But we’ve got the players who are capable of doing that. The boys are very hungry, we’ve got everything in our favour and we’re definitely meeting Wigan at a good time.”
