Leeds Rhinos 24, Bradford Bulls 24
Jarrod Sammut and Brett Kearney grabbed two tries apiece but the Bulls were denied victory over rivals Leeds by Danny McGuire in his testimonial match today.
Sammut scored twice early on to put the Bulls in control and Kearney took a fine pass from Nick Scruton to stretch their lead to 18-0 midway through the first half.
Leeds hit back with two tries from new recruit Joe Vickery shortly before the interval but Kevin Sinfield failed to convert either of them, leaving the scores at 18-8 in Bradford’s favour.
Rob Burrow crossed for Leeds shortly before the hour mark but five minutes later Kearney weaved his way over for his second and Jamie Foster’s fourth conversion put the Bulls 24-14 up.
Leeds responded through England winger Ryan Hall with 12 minutes remaining but Francis Cummins was denied a winning return to Headingley when McGuire scampered clear in trademark fashion in the 70th minute.
The match also saw James Donaldson make a long-waited return to action after injury in front of a crowd of 6,106.
It was an evenly-fought contest from which Cummins could draw plenty of positives ahead of the Super League opener at home to Wakefield on February 3.
