City were sent packing to their heaviest defeat of the season after a humiliating afternoon at Barnet.
The home side had won only once in 21 games to sit only five points clear of the drop zone.
But you would never have known it as they ripped City's unbeaten run to shreds.
After four clean sheets on the bounce, City conceded four times - and it could have been a lot more.
Rhys Evans was patched up to play after his thigh strain but City looked unrecognisable from the side who wouldn't be budged by the likes of Wycombe, Gillingham and Darlington.
Both sides had efforts cleared off the line before Albert Adomah seized on sloppy defending from a corner to fire Barnet in front midway through the first half.
It was the first goal City had let in for nearly 400 minutes but they conceded again before the break as John O'Flynn glanced home a header.
City were second best to everything. But they had come back from two down three times this season and raised the hopes of the 701 away fans when Michael Boulding pulled one back after 56 minutes.
But Barnet immediately slammed the door shut with two goals in the space of four minutes through Yannick Bolasie and Joe Devera.
City were finished and it could have been worse. Evans made good saves from the excellent Adomah and O'Flynn and veteran Paul Furlong planted a free header inches wide.
Those missed chances did not matter. Barnet were celebrating their first win since December - and only second at home this season - leaving City to lick their wounds from a shocking blow to the system.
CITY: Evans, Rehman, Lee, Clarke, O'Brien, Colbeck, Furman, Law, Jones, Boulding, Thorne. Subs: Arnison, McLaren, Bullock, Conlon, Convey.
