WEST Bowling came out on top 26-16 in a bruising Under-15 Division Four Yorkshire Junior League derby.
Visitors Wyke started the better, scrum half and man of the match Connor Fawcett impressing with his tackling and skipper Sebastian Blanco setting a strong lead with his powerful running.
Forward Liam Walker gave Wyke the lead, powering over from 15 yards out, and hooker Ben Proctor added the extras – but Bowling responded with two tries, one of which was converted for a 10-6 interval lead.
More confident now, they added a converted try, but Wyke hit back with a try by centre Cain Holdsworth, Proctor again tagging on the additional two points to make it 16-12.
They then levelled matters when full back Jack Poppleton got on the end of a canny kick by stand-off Cameron Scott.
But Bowling took the lead with a debatable try, before finishing off Wyke with a well-worked team try.
Scott was top tackler, Hainsworth won the players' and parents' awards and Blanco the opposition's man-of-the-match award.
Wyke lost 38-18 to Normanton in an under-tens clash, with the awards going to Jack Birkett (man of the match twice), Dylan Frith and Joseph Flynn (top tacklers) and Macauly Abrahams (coaches).
Under-eights honours against Hunslet Warriors on a freezing morning were taken by Finley Abrahams (player of the match), Lucas Range-Bennett (top tackler), Bradley Hemingway (coaches) and Charlie McShera (opposition player of the match).
