Tobi Adeniji was a star performer during the West Yorkshire section of the UK Sportshall Athletics Series held at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre.
The Bradford youngster topped the standings in three events as over 100 children from across the county competed in the trials, organised by Bingley Harriers.
Adeniji, whose siblings Lucy and Benjamin are also making tracks in junior sports, finished top in the hurdles time trial, standing triple jump and grand prix time trial to collect the most individual wins of all the boys competing.
In the girls’ section, Megan Ascough put in a five-star performance to claim victories in the obstacle time trial, hurdles time trial, high stepper, standing triple jump and javelin.
Ephraim Madugba, Khizer Shazad, William Marshall and Charles Smith all won two events during the event.
New records were set by Abigail Lampkin in the grand prix time trial by well over half a second, Ascough smashed the high stepper record with a time of 13.12 seconds and Shazad (Bradford Grammar School) in the soft javelin, while Olivia Procter equalled the chest push record with a seven-metre throw.
The event has resulted in two teams of up to 15 girls and two of up to 15 boys being selected for West Yorkshire to compete at the Yorkshire Under-11s Sportshall Fun in Athletics Festival in Halifax on Sunday, January 30.
The day had some disappointment with numbers being down. But with illness and schools trials being cancelled because of the weather partly to blame, there were still some quality athletes on show to make up strong teams for the finals.
There were also glowing reports from the event about the behaviour of the children, with the majority shaking hands and congratulating each other after some thrilling races, making it an excellent day for junior sportsmanship.
