BRADFORD'S new under-14s girls team travelled to York for their first involvement in the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League and finished a creditable second in their section.
They were supposed to play Thirsk, Leeds and Chapletown in a round-robin competition but Thirsk withdrew, leaving the remaining three teams to face each other in 35-minute games.
Four of the seven-player Bradford squad were experiencing competitive hockey for the first time but they did not look out of place.
Newcomers Morgan Ganaster and Safa Ejaz excelled in defence as Bradford opened against Chapletown and a goal from Gabrielle Doyle sealed a 1-0 victory.
Next up was Leeds, who had drawn 1-1 against Chapletown, and unfortunately Bradford came up against a keeper who made a string of fine saves and her side went on to nick a 1-0 win after a fine counter-attack.
Bradford's girls section completed an impressive weekend as their under-16s and under-12s also did well in their respective Yorkshire League competitions.
The club's juniors train at Bradford Girls Grammar School on Fridays from 7-9pm. Teams are organised at all ages from under-ten to under-16 for both boys and girls.
