Oakworth retained the Gordon Bowers under-nines competition trophy as they defeated 2011 runners-up Bradford & Bingley off the last available ball of a thrilling match at Undercliffe .
Bradford & Bingley batted first and Reece Cockshott (21) and Matthew Swallow (16) top-scored in their 256-5 total. Owen West was the pick of Oakworth’s bowlers as his three overs cost just a single run.
Oakworth then made a fine start to their reply, reaching 256-0 after 15 overs, and appeared on course to comfortably beat their opponents in the final for the second year running.
Further runs saw the total increase even further before an excellent run out, followed by another wicket, saw their score reduced and with one ball remaining the scores were level.
But skipper Bradley Powell and Shaban Armed held their nerve to scamper the single required as Oakworth secured the trophy.
