Crossflatts – who are returning – and newcomers Sandy Lane have joined the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket League.
They were accepted at the league’s annual meeting at Cononley Cricket Club, bringing the provisional number of teams up to 79 – the same as last year – meaning two divisions at every age group next season.
League secretary Derek Hurren congratulated Denholme’s Andrew Wear, the league’s under-17 Cricketer of the Year, who claimed 30 wickets to beat the record set by Scott Mallinson in 2004.
Oxenhope’s Tom Addison set the under-11 bowling record at 15 victims in 2009 but this season pushed it up to 16 with three in his last match at that level.
In batting, Wear, Chris Wademan (Glusburn) and Ben Fothergill (Oakworth) all broke the previous under-15 record of 303 set by Josh Lewis of Airedale in 2004. Skipton’s Keir Nelson and double-winning captain Lloyd Davies (Embsay) became only the fifth and sixth batsmen to score over 400 runs in a season with 415 and 410 respectively.
Tom Mawer, of Oxenhope, smashed the under-11 batting record, scoring 210 runs.
