YORKSHIRE bowling legend Ryan Sidebottom and emerging all-rounder Will Rhodes have joined Drax Cup ambassador Katherine Brunt – the Yorkshire and England women's pace bowler – in urging Bradford area primary and junior schools to enter the competition.
Around 500 schools from Yorkshire and Teesside, including 50 from the Bradford area, registered for the event – the biggest cricket competition for under-nines in the United Kingdom – in 2014.
Sidebottom said: "We're delighted to get involved with the Drax Cup, which is a fantastic introduction to the thrill of playing competitive cricket and a great opportunity for youngsters to practice and improve their skills."
Low Ash Primary, from Wrose, were West Area winners last year and went on to finish third in the finals at Headingley.
School Sports Partnerships have until Monday, April 20 to enter by completing the form on the website www.thedraxcup.co.uk.
The competition, which produces four area winners, begins after Easter and the successful quartet will play in the finals at Headingley on Friday, July 10, prior to the NatWest T20 Blast clash between Yorkshire Vikings and Durham Jets.
