Despite having only one team member who is from Year 13, Yorkshire Martyrs have won the Bradford Schools' Under-19 Basketball League.

And what is more they have gone through the entire league campaign unbeaten.

Delighted PE teacher Brian Clifford said of his charges: "The boys have forged a great team spirit and have consistently produced basketball of a high standard.

"Also they have a good work ethic both in training and in matches and have been rewarded for their efforts with this league title."

Captain Nicholson Davids is the sole Year 13 representative but has used his experience to nurture the younger members of his team.

Clifford added: "Elton Manaiua (Year 11) and Duane Davidson (Year Ten) in particular have made great progress this year."

Top points scorer for the team was Curtis Latouche, who averaged 23 points a game.

But Yorkshire Martyrs were unable to take their league form through to the cup final, going down 55-48 in a closely-fought match to near-neighbours Tong.

However, fifteen-year-old Davidson again showed his potential in this contest.
