Bradford have five qualifiers for the English Schools' Table Tennis Championships in Doncaster on April 26.

Bryan Birkbeck (boys' under-19s), Mary Fuller (girls' under-16s), Laura Mitchell (girls' under-19s), Aneesah Hussain-Qureshi (girls' under-13s) and Phoebe Foster (girls' under-11s) all qualified from the West Yorkshire finals at The Girls' Grammar School, Bradford.

Aneesah and Phoebe are from the host school, Mary and Laura attend Oakbank Sports College and Bryan goes to Salt Grammar School.

The other qualifiers to come through an encouraging entry of 48 boys and 20 girls were Danny Beech (Roundhay) in the under-16 boys and Vishal and Neil Dattani, under-13 boys and under-11 boys respectively, both from Moorlands School, Adel.

Bryan's first West Yorkshire title was emphatic as he defeated his five rivals, including former county under-13 and under-16 champion James Berry, from Bradford Grammar, 3-0 in the deciding match.

Ali Abdi and Shaan Haq, both from St Bede's, were third and fourth.

Nayan Mistry (Beckfoot) and Zahan Darr (Bradford Grammar) were under-16 boys' semi-finalists, the event starting with two large groups.

Danny comfortably won his group, with Zahan second. The other group was very tight with nobody winning all their games.

Dominic Cleghorn (Bruntciffe High) defeated everyone except Kurran Bharaj (Bradford Grammar), but he lost lost two games, allowing Nayan to reach second place on countback.

Danny defeated Nayan in one semifinal, Zahan losing 3-1 to Dominic in the other, Danny taking the final 3-0.

Mary emulated Bryan by winning all five of her matches in the girls' under-16s.

As runner-up, Laura was given the girls' under-19 berth as there was no competition for girls at that age group.

She was, however, given a run for her money by Charlotte Feather (The Girls' Grammar, Bradford), who only lost to her in five sets. Anisah Rasul (Bradford Grammar) finished fourth, winning two of her matches.

Liam Chipman (Holy Family) was under-13 boys' runner-up, taking the first set off Vishal Dattani 11-2.

This event contained three strong groups, which went to Vishal, Liam and his schoolmate Danny Johnson.

Group runners-up were Michael Whitaker (Bingley), Matthew Hull (Bradford Grammar) and Chris Wilson (Beckfoot).

In the quarter-finals Matthew defeated Michael in a close five-set match, with Danny beating Chris 3-1.

Vishal and Liam comfortably defeated Matthew and Danny in their respective semi-finals. The exciting final was watched by the majority of the players.

Meshal Furqan (The Girls' Grammar, Bradford) was second in the under-13 girls event, which was split into two groups of four. Meshal defeated all of the girls in her group, with Charlotte Coles (Bradford Grammar) second.

The other group was very close with Aneesah, her schoolmate Mehnoor Khaliq and Alex Farrar (Bradford Grammar) all winning two games.

Set difference decided that Aneesah and Mehnoor qualified as group winner and runner-up, which was hard on Alex as she was the only girl to beat the eventual winner.

In the semi-finals, Meshal won a five-set tussle against Mehnoor, whereas Aneesah defeated Charlotte 3-0 - the same margin by which she won the final.

James Scott (Sandal) was edged out in the under-11 boys' final, while schoolmate Nathan Livett was a semi-finalist, as was Callum White (Lady Lane).

Sarah Johnson (St Anne's, Keighley) was second in the under-11 girls.
