Wyke Manor proudly flew Bradford's flag in the second round of the Carnegie Champion Schools' Year Eight boys' rugby league tournament.

Having narrowly been defeated by Queensbury in the Bradford qualifier, Wyke got a bye in the first round of the regional competition.

They then faced St Catherine's from Halifax in what was a fantastic game played in atrocious conditions. Two commited defences put in a splendid effort and the contest could have gone either way, Wyke losing out 8-4.

Queensbury have a bye into the third round and will be at home to Castleford High (Wakefield).

Meanwhile, Tong are out of the Year 11 boys' event. After defeating Earlsheaton (Kirklees) 18-12 in the second round, the Bradford school lost 10-0 at Andrew Marvel (Hull).

Whitcliffe Mount (Kirklees), who trounced Millthorpe (North Yorkshire) 60-0 in the second round, taking their tally to 108 points in two matches, are at All Saints (South Yorkshire) in the third round, but Holy Family lost 46-16 against Freeston (Wakefield).
