The St Mary's School Sport Partnership in Menston has been applauded by Education Leeds, West Yorkshire Sport and the Youth Sport Trust for its outstanding work and impact throughout 54 Leeds schools.

The Partnership collaborates to develop high-quality physical education and school and community sport projects that aim to increase pupils' interest, participation and continued commitment.

Now in its seventh year, the impact made has been dramatic with more than 80 per cent of five to 16-year-olds participating in at least two hours of PE and school sport each week.

This amounts to more than 14,000 pupils being regularly involved in school PE and school physical activity programmes.

There has also been a huge increase in the number of competitive opportunities available for pupils, particularly over the last two years.

One new theme for the Partnership is the introduction of a competition manager.

This role has provided a fantastic focus and resource to plan, co-ordinate and drive competitive inter-school sport, while providing new events that both engage pupils and increase participation.

Nearly all schools are involved in a rich and structured programme of inter-school festivals, events and leagues.

Last year saw the introduction of new school leagues and events such as golf X-treme, table tennis, badminton and basketball.
