The Airedale Junior Cricket League, who last year won the under-11 Lord's Taverners Yorkshire Championship, proved too strong at under-12 level for the Upper Airedale Junior League when the sides clashed at Oxenhope.

Airedale, who were 96 for six, got away a little at the end of their innings to total 118 for seven, leg-spinner Andrew Wear (Denholme) taking two for 12 and Sam Shephard two for 26.

Upper Airedale, were soon in deep trouble at nine for four, including losing skipper Jack Davison (Oakworth) first ball.

Ben Fothergill (Oakworth) and Daniel Ellison-Bates (Upper Wharfedale) then added 24 runs until Ellison-Bates was dismissed for 17.

But 33 for five became 33 for eight and, although Lewis Wrathall made 13 not out at No 8, Upper Airedale were dismissed for 55, batting for only 21 of their 30 overs.

The return match is on Wednesday, August 8 at an Aire-Wharfe ground to be decided. However, on Sunday, the Airedale Junior League face the Sheffield Junior League at Denholme Cricket Club (2.00).
