South Craven ended up comfortable winners of the Bradford Schools' Football Association's Under-12 Cup final at Manningham Mills.
However, a 5-2 victory over Bingley Grammar looked anything but likely in the early stages.
Despite being beaten 11-0 with a weakened team when the sides met in the league earlier in the season, the white-shirted Bingley team looked to have the more skilful players initially in the final on a bone-hard pitch.
They held the ball up better in attack and, with South Craven having to concentrate on defence, when the North Yorkshire school did manage to clear the ball, it invariably came straight back.
A tap-in by Luke Difiori-Hughes soon put Bingley ahead but their defence were caught out by a long through ball.
Ben Gray was upended in the area and Josh McNulty confidently tucked the ball away from the spot for the equaliser.
Soon after McNulty's free-kick was spilled by the Bingley keeper and Tom McCann slotted the re-bound home.
In the second half, Mc-Nulty's precise cross gave McCann a great chance to score from a header and, although the keeper block-ed well with his legs, Mc-Cann was again Johnny on the spot to put the loose ball away.
McCann then turned provider for McNulty as South Craven made it 4-1.
Bingley had shown little in attack in either the second or third quarter of the contest but Difiori-Hughes showed his composure with a measured lob to reduce the deficit to 4-2.
However, McCann then completed his hat-trick with a sweet volley to restore South Craven's three-goal advantage.
