THORNBURY Primary School are celebrating after their futsal team came second in the West Yorkshire Winter Games final.
They played seven initial games against schools from Leeds, Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield, winning six games and drawing one as they progressed to the quarter-finals as group winners.
Bradford's representatives then met Calderdale, beating them 1-0, and saw off Kirklees in the semi-finals in a penalty shoot-out after drawing 1-1, with goalkeeper Zain Khan the hero.
However, there were no gold medals for brave Thornbury as they lost 1-0 in the final to St Anthony's, from Leeds.
Thornbury's squad for futsal, which is a small-sided game played with a smaller ball that does not bounce as much, were: Raheeb Akhtar, Ibrahim Khalid, Ibrahim Basat, Sulaiq Khan, Yacoob Jibraeel, Tayyab Amin, Zain Khan and Bilal Ali.
