The senior tennis squad at The Girls' Grammar School, Bradford have successfully negotiated the initial group stage of the Aberdare Cup, the national team competition for schoolgirls.
They beat Greenhead College, Huddersfield, 4-2, Tapton School from Sheffield 4-0 and Wakefield Girls' High School 6-0 to emerge as group winners. The squad has still to play their best tennis but they are looking forward to the knockout stage of the competition which will take place towards the end of the month, hoping to repeat their success of last year, in reaching the national finals.
The squad is: Lucy Burns, captain, of Menston; Grace Illingworth (Halifax); Zara Paes (Holmfirth); Emily Shepherd Ogden (Halifax); Sophie Shepherd Ogden (Halifax) and Emma Shires (Brighouse).
