Hipperholme Grammar School pupil Harrison Layden-Fritz, who normally has his feet in water as an outstanding swimmer, has shown his versatility by qualifying for the national cross-country finals.
The Year Eight pupil came eighth in the Years Seven and Eight boys’ race at the Independent Schools’ Association North Cross-Country Championships at Scarisbrick Hall School in Southport.
Backing up Layden-Fritz were Year Seven pair Charlie Kershaw (24th) and Harry Barraclough (29th).
Hipperholme also excelled in the Years Seven and Eight girls race, where three students finished in the top 30. Hannah Coe was 13th, and is a reserve for the North team, Victoria Spires was 26th and Leah Coe 28th.
In the Years Nine and Ten races, Jack Wilcock was 20th and Myles Stirk 27th for the boys, with Kate Lee 34th and Olivia Pearson 35th for the girls.
