East Bowling Allstars are living up to their name despite only being formed two years ago.
They have already tasted success thanks to the under-12s, who gained promotion after finishing second in their league.
Allstars secretary Robert Hobson, who formed the club, said: “It is a massive achievement, especially as it is only their second season.”
The unique attitude of the club, who were nominated for a T&A community award last year, seems to be a key factor in their achievements. They never overlook any child wanting to play for them.
“Basically, there were a lot of kids who played for other teams but weren’t good enough,” said Hobson.
“We give every child that plays for us a chance, whatever their ability. I’ve fielded weakened sides in the past just to give everyone a game.”
But running teams at under-nine, under-11, under-12 and under-13 levels does not come cheap and Hobson said raising money to help keep the club afloat has been a major obstacle.
“We’re generally self-sufficient, and we’ve managed to get some money out of the council for trophies for our awards evening, but I’ve had to put some money in from my own pocket in the past,” he said.
“I wouldn’t want the club to fold due to lack of resources. The amount of application forms I’ve filled in and sent off is unbelievable but they generally say thanks but no thanks.
“I’ve managed to get kits from a local printing firm and a local garage really helped me out last year with a kit when I was desperate.”
After recent accomplishments, Hobson is not about to reverse his impartial approach and says his attitude encourages more youngsters to sign up.
“We stay fair to all the kids, a lot of whom play for me that wouldn’t be able to play anywhere else really,” he said.
“We keep getting a lot more kids and I think that’s down to our ethos and the way we run it. We’re completely different from other junior clubs.
“Every child gets the same opportunity. I’d never turn them away and we’re very community-spirited as a club.”
