After a six-week spell on the sidelines, Wyke Wanderers under-nines were edged out 3-1 by Dalton Dynamoes on their return to Huddersfield RCD Junior League action.
Dalton punished some sloppy defending by taking their chances well, while Wyke were less accurate in front of goal.
Cameron Balmforth, Lewis Evans and Travis Wardman were solid enough at the back while, in midfield, Connor Barran and man of the match Danny Ingham linked up well with the forwards but struggled to get back to help out in defence.
Owen Khan scored Wyke’s only goal with a fantastic long-range free-kick.
Wyke Wanderers under-nines B lost a game they deserved to win due to a combination of bad luck and good defending from opponents Dalton Dynamoes B.
Goalkeeper Jack Hewitt-Hill was named man of the match, and Travis Wardman and Jared Muff battled hard at the back, while Lewis Stephenson and Nathan Aylott did well in midfield.
Cameron Balmforth was at the heart of most attacks and Matthew Brumfitt scored a superb individual goal but Dalton eventually won 2-1.
