Wyke Wanderers A Under-Eights paid for two periods of sloppy defence in going down 4-2 at home to Brighouse B in the Huddersfield RCD Junior League.
But Wanderers had the consolation of the best goal, Owen Khan beating three opponents before firing into the top corner.
Charlie Smith scored his first goal of the season after much knocking on the door, and Connor Barran made some excellent saves, while man of the match Lewis Evans stopped most of the visitors’ attacks and set up most of Wyke’s.
Jack Hewitt-Hill made some crucial tackles and linked up well, while Nathan Aylott tried hard in his first step up to the A team.
Wanderers B notched their first home win of the season, defeating Brighouse D 3-2.
Ben Boocock made some fantastic saves, including a penalty, and the Evans twins, Bailey and Mason, had great debuts, Bailey being rewarded with a goal.
Jarad Muff made some fine cover tackles, Danny Gledhill linked up well in midfield and Bailey Clarkson’s pace brought him two well-taken goals.
