Silsden Reds’ under-15 match against Bingley Juniors in the Craven, Aire & Wharfe Junior League was understandably tense as both teams were level in mid-table of the B Division.
For the first 20 minutes, the contest was end to end, with keepers and defenders being put to the test.
Luke Wilson opened the scoring for Silsden and slotted his second just before the break to give the home side a comfortable two-goal lead.
But Bingley responded well to the pressure and within minutes of the second half resumption had pulled a goal back.
Bingley then levelled before Luke Wilson bagged his hat-trick, but once again the visitors gained parity.
However, it looked as if Josh Rodgers’ volley was going to give Silsden victory, only for an own goal to leave it all-square at 4-4.
After a poor performance in their previous game, second-from-bottom Wilsden were challenged by their management team to put things right at right at home to third-placed Bolton Woods in Division Under-12B.
Wilsden started well and took the lead when Pip Greetham was pushed over in the area by a Bolton Woods defender.
Sam Murphy maintained his 100 per cent record from the penalty spot this season but Woods levelled when Adam Vaux made an excellent save, only to push the ball straight to a Woods player.
The visitors got another goal before half-time and made it 3-1 in the second half after Wilsden had swapped keepers due to injury.
The hosts pushed more players forward and pulled a goal back through man-of-the-match Joe Hutchinson, who then had to keep Woods at bay at the other end as Wilsden risked conceding another.
Nevertheless, Wilsden had numerous chances, the closest being when Joseph Jagger hit a post, but Woods held out for the win.
Max Nunwick made a very promising debut for Wilsden in an excellent team performance.
Bradford Tigers Under-13s seem to reserve their best performances for Long Lee, who have won all five matches against other opponents this season.
The Keighley side were beaten 6-2 by Tigers earlier in the campaign at Crag Road, and they made it a double with a 3-2 victory at Long Lee.
With both goalkeepers in fine form, especially Tigers’ Jake Heseltine, the visitors’ goals came from Danny Chapman, Dillon Graham and Luke Duckett.
The latter’s goal started all the way from right back Kalum Davey. Jordan Kitching, Joe Gartland, Rosie McDonnell and Kyle Dunn also shone for the winners.
Nab Wood and Albion Sports were fighting for top spot in D Division and shared the points in a superb 1-1 draw, although Nab Wood both scored and missed a penalty.
It was 0-0 at half-time, with Albion’s man of match Tariq Aziz and newcomer Akash Ali were sensational at the back, along with Rahul Bhalla.
Zak Khan put Albion in front from a defensive error, Nab Wood equalising from the spot with ten minutes left.
Albion Sports moved into third place in the Under-12 A Division after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over a very impressive Oakworth. Oakworth started the better but Albion took the lead with a breakaway goal.
Nadeem Khan played a wonderful through ball to Zain Mushtaq, who beat his man and scored with a low drive.
The two combined again as Albion went in with a two-goal lead but Oakworth were back in the game within two minutes of the restart.
Mushtaq had the chance to increase Albion’s lead but missed from the spot, and Albion had to thank their man of the match, debutant goalkeeper Varun Khanna, who made three stunning saves to ensure that they took all the points. Prince Kahlon and Aaron Day were outstanding in Albion’s defence.
