Eccleshill United under-16s continued with their push for the league title with a hard-fought 3-1 win at Northowram in the Huddersfield League.

Despite going down to an early goal, Eccleshill battled back in harsh conditions to take a 2-1 half-time lead thanks to goals from Danny Crozier and Chris Baines.

United then secured the result in the second half with a fine strike from Matthew Marshall. Daniel Myas put in another man-of-the-match performance.

In the Craven, Aire & Wharfe League, BD3 United under-12s produced their best performance of the season in beating Sedbergh Crusaders 5-2.

After Sedbergh had taken an early lead, United equalised midway into the first half thanks to a great through-ball from Hamza Mohammad which was finished off by Sami Younis.

Sedbergh regained the lead just before the interval but, with the wind behind them. BD3 took control in the second half with three goals in five minutes goals from Sahaab Hussain, JB Shohaib and man of the match Sami Younis, who scored with a great 20-yard chip.

As Crusaders pressed forward, United added a fifth on the counter-attack through Mohammad Israr.

Although they were pegged back by a fine equaliser, Bradford Tigers' weren't thrown out of their stride and proceeded to defeat plucky bottom-of-the-table Nab Wood 10-1 in the Under-11 B Division at Lapage School.

With man of the match Jordan Kitching again proving what a fine athlete he is, Daniel Marshall providing some incisive passing in midfield and Jack Tingle letting nothing past in defence, four Tigers players notched braces.

They came from Kitching, including a superb solo effort, centre forward Lucas Clayden, midfielder William Gilroy and calm centre back James Townend, left back Lucas Davey and midfielder Dillon Graham making up the tally.

Eccleshill United under-14s put in some hard work on the pitch to ensure their game with Grassington went ahead but their efforts were undone by a 5-1 defeat.

Lewis Coupe earned the man of the match for United and scored the only goal for the home side.

Westwood under-11s started stronger against Bradford United Lizards in the Keybury League and only great defending from Ryan Craven and Chris Sampson plus a string of saves from man of the match Aidan Garner kept the score at 0-0.

The Lizards started to play good football and took the lead through Rhys Raistrick heading in superbly from a Danny Shackleton corner.

In the second half, Westwood got the upper hand again and only further saves from Garner kept them at bay but eventually the pressure told and they scored twice to lead 2-1. But Raistrick's second secured a point for Bradford.

An opening burst of three goals in the first seven minutes laid the foundation for a convincing 6-0 win for Thackley Thunder under-sevens at home to Bradford United.

The visitors regrouped but were able to prevent Thackley adding to their lead just before half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with some spirited United defending in the face of waves of Thackley attacks.

Goalkeeper Ben Fraser pulled off a great save, tipping a shot around the post, but Thackley increased their advantage with a long-range shot. Their final goal came on the counter-attack after Greg Mulheron and Jack Holroyd had been denied by the Thackley rearguard, who turned defence into attack and scored on the break.

Vision Juniors under-nines B kept their 100 per cent record going when they completed the double over second-placed Batley with a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from Joseph Lawrence (2), Bradley Thackery and Adam Norman.

Vision's under-14s, who are also top of their league, are on the lookout for new players after two youngsters joined professional club academies.
