BPA Lizards Under-12s 6, Deighton Juniors Under-12s 4
BPA Lizards welcomed Huddersfield RCD Junior League side League Deighton Juniors to Wellington School for a third-round West Riding County FA Under-12 Junior Shield tie.
Lizards got off to a flyer, a left-foot volley from Lewis Melvin putting them 1-0 ahead inside five minutes, and Alex Gibson made it 2-0 a minute later, slipping past three defenders before slotting home.
Deighton pulled a goal back on 16 minutes, rounding off some fantastic passing, but Melvin restored BPA's two-goal cushion two minutes later.
However, the visitors scored again on 26 minutes, a cheeky cross being slotted home at the near post, but within two minutes their Deighton keeper made a huge mistake, missing the ball from his drop kick.
Quick as a flash, Dominic Corps took the ball round him and slotted home, Melvin completing his hat-trick on the half-hour to give BPA breathing space.
Moments later, Corps split open the Deighton defence with the pass of the game, Gibson running onto it and firing home from a tight angle after cutting in from the wing.
The Lizards played a more defensive game in the second half, hoping to hold on to their lead, but an own goal gave Deighton renewed belief and the game became a thriller, with battles all over the pitch between two well-matched sides.
Deighton scored a fourth goal late in the game but both teams had worn each other to a standstill by that point, and the Lizards closed the game out to move into the fourth-round draw.
