The Keybury Youth League are celebrating their 20th anniversary – and founder Eddie Presland is adamant they will go on for many years yet.

Although he will remain as treasurer for the next two years, Presland very much hopes to take a back-seat role once he has been succeeded as league secretary by Peter Walshe at the annual meeting on Sunday, June 16 at Keighley Cricket Club (7.30pm).

“We want to move the league into the 21st century and feel that it is stronger than ever,” he said.

“Over the past two or three years we have been down in numbers due to other local leagues but we want to bounce back.

“The Keybury League will be playing friendly football at under-sevens, eights and nines and competitive football from under-tens to under-16s.

“Under-sevens and eights will be five v five, under-nines and tens seven v seven and under-11s to 16s nine v nine in line with Football Association regulations.

“We will also be revamping our website with a link to the FA website. We had 600 hits in our first four or five days.”

Presland, who has basically run the league with his wife Jenni for years, hopes it can be expanded in the coming seasons.

He said: “Old and new teams will be very welcome to join our league and they can contact us at peter.walshe@me.com or eddiepresland@hotmail.co.uk.”
