Otley’s pace was too much for visitors Penrith in the Cross Greeners’ first pre-season friendly yesterday.
The hosts won 88-7, with winger James Twomey bagging a hat-trick of tries as early as the 25th minute.
Teenage fly half Ben Cooper made a big impression, perming well with the returning Steve Depledge, as did the back row of flankers Fred Watson and Dan Temm and No 8 Luke Watts.
Toby Williams, normally a flanker, even had a spell at prop as Otley were short of front rows.
The major problem caused by National League Three North Penrith to their National League Two North hosts was in the scrum.
Bradford & Bingley, depleted in the backs, went down 48-0 at Darlington Mowden Park, while Kirkby Lonsdale crossed off from their friendly at Keighley because they only had 12 men.
