Bradford & Bingley 14, Kendal 23
The smallest of margins will probably decide who is relegated from National League Two North this season, and Bradford & Bingley's inability to turn pressure into points may well be their undoing when it comes to the day of reckoning.
Kendal were never at their best yesterday but always seemed to just do enough to repel their hosts or just to nudge the scoreboard along when it was required.
The best example to illustrate the difference between the sides was a ten-minute period before half-time where the Bees took route one time and again to crash over the Kendal line but came away empty handed, which contrasts with a similar period of pressure from the visitors, who realised that enough was enough and veteran fly half Mike Scott stepped up to slot over a drop goal.
There were periods in the first half where Kendal looked to be establishing an attacking platform but on balance the Bees were on top for possibly two- thirds of the first half but only held a seven-point lead through a Tom Davidson try and conversion.
The Bees should have gone in at half-time with a lead but, as is becoming a familiar pattern, took the foot off the gas to allow Kendal back into the game right on half-time as Chris Park galloped in for a score.
In the second half, a penalty try for the home side as wingman Terry Sibanda was impeded brought the Bees right back into the game following an Ian McDowell try for Kendal but the home side were finally undone by Scott's slotted drop goal in the final five minutes which deprived the Bees of the losing bonus point.
