THE second teams of Yorkshire Division One foes Keighley and Bradford Salem have been kept apart in the draw for next week's semi-finals of the Latino Ceramics Aire-Wharfe Cup.
Salem will be at holders Ilkley Thirds, while Keighley will travel to Old Otliensians, who were beaten in last season's final on a goal-kicking shoot-out after they could not be separated at either full-time or after extra-time.
Keighley defeated Wharfedale Thirds 39-32 in a quarter-final that delighted a large crowd at Rose Cottage last night.
Among the home side's try-scorers were Joe Sugden (2), Dave Pullen and former Wharfedale player Chris Meehan, who arguably made the difference with his kicking, including landing two drop goals.
Salem trailed Aireborough 17-6 after 50 minutes at Shay Lane, also last night, but came through 25-17 on an evening when the visitors did not make the best use of their backs in the first half.
Tries for Salem went to Richard Langhorn, Connor Malarkey and Chris Clough, with Sam Riley adding two penalties and two conversions.
Replying for Aireborough were try-scorers Jonny Hiles (2) and Kris Brook, with Ollie Catherall adding one conversion.
Ilkley triumphed 35-0 at home to West Leeds Seconds last night, with tries going to No 8 Charlie Scott, right winger Andy Cromack, centre Tom Milner and replacement centre Ed Brown, with Charlie Ramsay tagging on three conversions and three penalties.
Ensians defeated Otley Saracens 18-10 on a chilly night at Chaffers Field on Tuesday.
The home side were pegged back to 10-10 just before half-time, but scored all the points in the second half of what was at times a feisty contest that was riddled with penalties.
Alex Murphy's try and Connor Bateman's conversion and penalty had given the hosts a 10-3 lead but Otley's second string, who had managed a Ben Fairclough penalty, got a Marcus Triblett try that was converted by Danny Whitelaw to send the teams to their oranges all-square.
Bateman nudged Otliensians ahead with a second-half penalty, but then missed one before his try down the right wing put the home side more than a score in front.
Otley, who had two players sin-binned in the second half, including experienced prop Jason Moss, tried to come back into the derby but missed two late penalty attempts.
Latino Ceramics Aire-Wharfe Plate, second-round results: Bradford & Bingley-2 24 Baildon 59, Bramley Phoenix 19 Yarnbury 2 44. Semi-final draw: Yarnbury-2 v Roundhegians-2, West Park Leeds-2 v Baildon.
