Wibsey had to concede their SSE Yorkshire Division Five match at Rossington Hornets on Saturday as they travelled with only 11 players.
However, Wibsey’s first-team manager Steve Brooke reckons that all of the players came off the pitch as winners when the teams played a friendly instead.
He explained: “Rossington, who lent us three players, were happy because they got the league points, while we were happy because we won the game 26-10.
“All the Wibsey players came off the pitch with a smile on their face.”
James Birkbeck, Martin Howarth, Alex Stephens and Matty Holdsworth got the tries, with Elliott Gray landing three conversions against the side Wibsey are hoping to catch in the table.
Wharfedale’s SSE National League One match at Cinderford was called off on Friday tea-time and has been re-arranged for Saturday, May 3, thus ensuring an extension of the season for both clubs.
The Greens’ programme editor Gordon Brown said: “That is the third straight home match that Cinderford have had called off and all their spare dates up to the end of April have already been taken.”
Bradford & Bingley’s SSE National League Three North game at Stockport was postponed on Saturday morning, as was Bradford Salem’s SSE Yorkshire Division Two match at Roundhegians.
Salem’s first-team manager Neil Klenk went down to the club’s Shay Lane ground on Saturday morning and described it as the wettest he has ever known it in the 31 years since the venue was opened.
Cleckheaton’s top-of-the-table SSE North One East match at home to Huddersfield YMCA was another victim of a Saturday-morning pitch inspection and has been re-arranged for next Saturday, still with a 3pm kick-off.
