The Bumble Bees Barbarians, who are seeking disabled changing facilities at their Wagon Lane headquarters, have become a registered charity.
They announced the news at a charity luncheon at the ground following their recent match against a Baildon Select, which was attended by former Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe.
Anthony Waddington, who is advising the Bumbles, said: “The changing rooms will cost £250,000-£500,000 but that figure will be less as our achitects in Harrogate are giving their services for free, and other local companies will be giving their services for free.
“Up to now, the Bumbles have been dependent on private-sector owners and sponsorship by small companies, but being a registered charity opens up funding opportunities such as corporate grants and money from grant-maintained bodies.
“We hope to have the building completed by next October.”
Baildon triumphed 17-12, with tries by Richard Moorhouse, Craig Shaw and Anthony Perrow, James Dawson adding a conversion.
Points for the Bumbles came from Darrell Wilson (try), Ryan Wilson (try) and Ahsan Sakander (conversion).
