Guy Ford, who has been captain of Bradford & Bingley for the past two seasons, has confirmed that he will be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign.

The Cheshire-based all-action back-rower explained: "This is due to work reasons on the family farm and not being able to take the time out to sit on the M62 three times a week like I have the last couple of years.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my five years at the club, especially being able to captain the side and really appreciate all the kind words people have said to me.

"I would like to thank all the coaches, players, supporters and all the staff at the club. I hope to be see you all at our next two matches or at the club dinner on Friday, May 3."

Prior to Saturday's SSE National League Three North derby at Sandal, Ford's playing record for the Bees has been played 121, starts 115, tries 48, which is an exceptional try ratio. Even more startling is that 32 of those tries have come in the last 48 matches.

As for last weekend's victory over Percy Park which confirmed that the Bees wouldn't be relegated, Ford said: "We played well with a lot of energy and commitment, which should never be in doubt and is something that needs to be addressed away from 'The Hive' next term."

He also apologised for the 69-12 defeat at Chester, calling the Bees' performance "abject".

Ford added: "The last two games give us an opportunity to play with no pressure and hopefully provide an opportunity to have a look at next year.

"We have some very talented lads who will be the ones representing our club for the next decade I hope, and some have really come on this year - to mention a few Adam Wellington, Adam Malthouse and Tom Bills have really stepped up and learnt a lot. Hopefully this progress will carry on.

"Along with these young lads, the ones who have played a number of games will need to step up and take on more responsibility in order to take the club in the right direction."
