Otley 16 Moseley 13
Otley have made a commitment to play a more attractive, less forward-orientated style of rugby this season.
Their experienced fly half Simon Binns said after this match: "We have greater speed in the backs and in the back row."
Unfortunately, although it brought them a second successive win, there was little champagne rugby' on offer on Saturday.
The 32-year-old former Moseley player, who was in opposition to his brother, full back Andrew, said: "Both sides played poorly but they were probably slightly worse than us. Also we probably played the conditions (there was a breeze in Otley's favour in the second half) slightly better than them too, although they started to use Andy's left foot to do damage.
"Most of the match was played in the middle-third of the pitch with defences generally on top, but we looked more likely to score a try than them and the referee didn't help with his interpretation around the ruck."
As to how Otley's season will go, Binns said: "We have a stronger squad than we have had for a few years, but we have a 30-match league programme and are competing as part-timers against some full-time teams. Therefore we have to be realistic. If we can compete in each game and get 15 wins then we can finish in mid-table."
No 8 Maifea Maifea was the Otley player most likely to make a try or score one. The problem with the Tongan is keeping his discipline, and both sides of the spectrum were shown in the first four minutes.
In the 15th minute, Otley centre Rob Whatmuff got a neck injury that may keep him out of next Saturday's home match against Waterloo.
A long Maifea pass just eluded Parsons in the 22nd minute but referee Llyr Ap Geraint Roberts had spotted that Moseley were offside under their posts, Simon Binns doing the necessary.
The lead only lasted seven minutes though, replacement Kyle Dench's high tackle on centre Chris Holder allowing fly half Oliver Thomas to equalise.
Otley took the lead with a second Simon Binns penalty in the 36th minute after Moseley had illegally interfered with scrum half Neil Chivers, but Thomas kicked a second penalty deep into stoppage time when Otley's Xavier Andre was yellow-carded for handling in the ruck.
However, Otley went ahead in the 43rd minute, second row Brendon Back being driven over from a line-out close in, the fly half adding a confident conversion.
Moseley got a try six minutes into injury time from replacement front row Adam Caves, converted by Thomas, to earn themselves a bonus point.
