Cleckheaton 17, Team Northumbria 17
Cleckheaton’s inconsistent season continues after a very disappointing performance yesterday against a game, youthful Northumbria side in SSE North One East.
Playing with a strong wind in their favour, the home side initially dominated both territory and possession, winger James Wilson sprinting in for a try in the 15th minute which was converted by Iain Gordon.
Cleckheaton’s superiority continued and two further tries from rolling mauls were awarded to Richard Piper and Ed Chappelow, Gordon being unsuccessful with the conversion attempts.
A combination of poor tactical awareness and execution from the home side and good basic rugby from the students slowly but surely closed the deficit in the scoreline.
As desperation set in and with time running out, the visitors launched one final effort and were justly rewarded with the equalising converted try.
