Dinnington 11, Keighley 13
Keighley made hard work of subduing workmanlike Dinnington yesterday in SSE Yorkshire Division One.
Within minutes of the kick-off, a Keighley forward was guilty of an infringement, leaving an easy penalty for scrum half Danny Wilkinson.
After some ragged play from both teams, Keighley were penalised for comments to the referee, and a further three points ensued for Wilkinson.
Throughout the first half, Keighley, playing up the slope and against a strong wind, found it very difficult to gain quality possession and territory.
In the second half, the Keighley forwards began to dominate, forcing Dinnington into mistakes, and hands in a ruck gave Keighley's Alex Brown an easy three points.
In a rare foray into the Keighley 22-metre area, Dinnington managed to steal Keighley's scrum ball and, after a series of drives, their powerful No 8 Will Marshall crashed over for a try.
From that point onwards, Dinnington were kept penned in their own half, under pressure in all phases of play.
Some fine driving play from the Keighley forwards gave hooker Will Armitage the opportunity to burrow his way over the try line.
A little later, with the forwards pressurising, the backs moved the ball wide and fly half Brown ducked under a tackle to score.
Although Keighley were in the ascendancy and came close on a number of occasions, they were unable to add to their score.
