A convincing performance at Cambridge has persuaded the Wharfedale selectors to reward Will Bell by retaining him at fly half for Saturday’s home SSE National One fixture with Tynedale, ahead of his two illustrious predecessors on the bench.

The 23-year-old – who scored the opening try, then moved to scrum half when Philip Woodhead limped off with a knock – is preferred to Tom Barrett and Luke Gray.

Wharfedale’s two successive five-point victories are all the more remarkable as they have been achieved without their top try-scorer Dan Solomi, who is named in Saturday’s starting line-up, subject to a fitness test.

Impressive young flanker James Holland, who also scored at Cambridge, is named at blind-side in place of Aaron Myers, who is away with the England Sevens squad in Dubai.

Veteran prop Neil Dickinson comes on to the bench for Mark Tampin, whose ankle injury may keep him out until after the Christmas break.

Baildon, who lost four games in succession earlier in the season, hope to make it four wins in a row Saturday at home to struggling Hessle in SSE Yorkshire Three.

The Jenny Laners did the double over their East Yorkshire rivals last season and their squad is gradually getting stronger.

Back tomorrow are prop Guy Price, flanker Danny Pollard, second row Matthew Atkinson and skipper and scrum half James Dawson, who are all likely to start, while prop Martin Heming-way should feature on the bench.
