Otley’s director of rugby watched his team defeat Sheffield Tigers 46-28 in SSE National League Two North last Saturday and noted that the Tigers conceded 17 points while they were short-handed.
The Tigers had centre Tom Outram (35 minutes) and lock Gregor Haytor (54 minutes) yellow-carded, Otley running in three tries and adding a conversion when they had a numerical advantage.
So often the boot has been on the other foot with Otley heading the division’s yellow-card count with five.
However, the Cross Greeners are also climbing a positive table as they are now the third-highest try-scorers in the division.
Their points for tally isn’t too shabby either as they have scored 254, which is only bettered by leading duo Loughborough Students (346) and Caldy (322), plus Stockport (255).
Westoe and Preston Grasshoppers have also scored 254 points, and the league match points tally is almost as congested.
Walker added: “I am very pleased about our try-scoring tally but we aren’t forgetting defence.”
The former Old Otliensian also put in a good word about Daniel Temm’s progress, the flanker chipping in with a hat-trick against Tigers.
Walker said: “Daniel is doing really well. Sometimes he gets penalised because he is too quick for the referee!”
They make the short hop to Harrogate on Saturday (2.00), with Walker saying: “A lot of their team selection depends on whether their seven Leeds lads are available.”
