Ossett 8 Old Grovians 30 This game was not as straight forward as the result might suggest.
For the opening 25 minutes the Old Grovians were as lethargic and error-strewn in their play as they've been all season - and Ossett capitalised.
Grovians had already seen a try go begging when wing Dan Nulty knocked on over the line before his missed tackle allowed the Ossett winger to skirt under the posts for the game's opening try.
A successful penalty kick gave them an 8-0 lead and the Old Grovians were struggling to get out of their own half. Wayward passes, combined with Ossett's good work at the breakdown to turn over the ball, meant all too often the Old Grovians were backing up and scrambling in defence but an Adam Weaving penalty got them on the scoreboard and they only trailed 8-3 at the break.
The second half performance was much sharper, with Old Grovians' retention and use of the ball greatly improved.
An early penalty reduced the deficit to two before top try scorer Dean Hogg crossed over for his 14th of the season to give the OGs their first lead of the game. With Ossett reduced to 14 men after their winger was sent to the bin for attempting to trip Hogg, the OGs added two more. The first was from John Hinchliffe and then Nulty atoned for his earlier error, breaking three tackles before touching down.
The Old Grovians were able to secure a bonus point with a second Hinchliffe try after he intercepted the ball to walk in under the posts.
The Old Grovians climb up to third in the table, six points behind the leaders, Leeds Medics & Dentists.
